Biography

Amritha Sekhar was born into a family where Carnatic music is a legacy handed down through generations; she is the fourth in her line to uphold this sacred tradition. Her musical journey began at the tender age of three under the guidance of her father, Sri. B.S. Sekhar. Her voice, known for its power and emotion, is a reflection of this deep-rooted connection to the art form. A 'B-High' grade artist with All India Radio, Amritha's dedication extends beyond performance to nurturing students around the world. Her multifaceted persona is complemented by Master's degrees in both Fine Arts and Computer Applications, blending artistic depth with intellectual rigor.

Guru Parampara

Amritha's music is blessed by a profound lineage:

  • Her paternal grandmother, the late Smt. P. Bhagavathy Ammal, was a disciple of the doyen of Carnatic music, Sri. Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer.

  • Her father and first guru, Sri. B.S. Sekhar, is a disciple of the late Sri. Vechoor.N Hariharasubramania Iyer and a B Grade artist in AIR.

Musical Tutelage

Amritha's artistry has been meticulously shaped by esteemed masters:

  • Sri. B.S. Sekhar: Her father, who initiated her into music in 2002.

  • Prof. Sri Sivaramakrishnan: She trained for over 16 years with the Retd. Professor from the Govt College of Music, Coimbatore.

  • Shri Ramakrishnan Murthy: She currently refines her craft, taking advanced lessons for the past eight years from the renowned Chennai-based virtuoso.

Kalathilakam Award - Brahamakalolsavam, Kerala Brahmana Sabha (2012).
